Discribion of the Switched storyboard

Switched arc for Dust (this is just a rough vis, ok) Scene 1 Living Room Saul sat on the couch, there was a pounding in his head. The pain made him squeeze his eyes shut but there was no escape. Flashes from that time haunt him. It wasn’t what he wanted but it took it away, even if it was only temporary. Saul grabs the premade needle filled with black tar and quickly stabs his arm. It burned like a wildfire in his veins but what came after was worth it. It numbs him. He glances up to see the a light coming from the kitchen.  Memory After Sunday meetings Ann, Vaghun, and Saul played a deck a cards. Vaghun was wearing their youths club shirt, light blue shirt with a dove on it. Vaghun would always win at card games and now was no different. Vaghun cried out in victory, again. Saul threw up his hand, Vaghun laughing, and Ann, his mom, smiling.  Present Saul is standing by the kitchen smiling softly. The kitchen was empty but it was only a memory and l...

Switching up the story

Image
There are parts of the story that have holes and the big unanswered question. "How can you regain hope?" It is something that the boards are unclear of to me though when brought up to my crew I get the same answer each time. So I decided to do some quick boards as an alternative. I am not part of the storyboard process nor the animatic. It was just an idea in the early odd hours. They may not be understood at this time but I'm working on it.

FX Dust Particle

As we move along this week I've been given the task to create the FX, dust particles in particular. I start researching the best way in creating this for this film. I go back to basics of what I know of scripting OSL. A major reference that I use is fundza.com because in a previous quarter I took a class that dealt with this. I know that most of it is more central around RenderMan but Arnold does have the capability of using the same language. I found a vimeo tutorial that is more geared toward the effect that we want to accomplish. https://vimeo.com/184711154 It's about dissolving an object to dust. That got me to think that I could write a script for it. However there is a disadvantage to this. One, if I write the script with an emission line and an opacity layer that we could animate, would I be able to guarantee it to work. Option two, I could create an image sequence that can work but it will only last as long as the sequence does as a set time. Like if it lasts fo...

Re-do of layout

Knocked down the wall between the living room and the kitchen to open up the space.

Living Room Props

Image
These are some of the sketches that I did during the third week of classes for the environment props. Just some studies of different couches and tables that could be used. Though the first sketch was to test how the broken lamp would look like besides the couch.

A crew member gave me a breakdown of the Mom character to model but the proportions were off. The structure of the body was not lining up so I ended up redrawing the character in its most basic shape to even begin on modeling the character. This is what I was given to start from.  Out from that I drew this sheet of shapes to realign some proportions and to understand how the body looks under the layer of clothing.

More and more props

I did a model in Zbrush of the rotary phone that we may use.  I did a few study sketches for the mirror and lamp again. Just testing out what other details that we could do.

Some clothing sketches for the Mom character for my producer to help decide what type of clothing we want her to wear throughout this film.

Prop Models

Image
In our crew, we change roles so often. As of now I will be designing and modeling the props we are going to use as well as gather texturing materials to start from. Here are a few of my own sketches. Note we are still refining the props.
I've been more focused lately on scripting as a way to produce faster models and rigs. https://vimeo.com/184711154 particle dust https://cgbeer.com/ free tutorials mport maya.cmds as cmds cmds.createCurveWarp('polygonName','curveName') CurveWrap Deformer https://www.highend3d.com/maya/script/advancedskeleton5-for-maya Advance Skeleton 5 maya plugin Here is some links that I found that would most help our production. As we continue this week I hope to have a testing demo. Right now it is unclear if we will use Arnold of Unreal engine to render though I will use both as a test to see which will render the fastest with all the FX. Also I've been reading up on how to create and set up plugins for Maya.  https://download.autodesk.com/us/maya/2009help/index.html?url=API_Writing_a_simple_plugin.htm,topicNumber=d0e633773
